Channel Surfing was an extremely simple concept. We wanted to be able to apply various image manipulations (blur, contrast, value shift, etc.) to individual channels of a source image. More importantly, we wanted to be able to treat the H, L, and S channels as individual channels. This means you can blur the luminance of the source image, or increase the contrast of the Hue or Saturation.

On top of that, Channel Surfing allows you to attenuate the results of the manipulation based on another channel. Using the simple system, you can adjust how much of the operation (how much blur, for example) is applied to the channel, using another channel as a reference. So I could blur Saturation more where there is more luminance, less where the image is darker.

Channel Surfing is simple but creates some powerful results. Just using luminance or saturation contrast modes can improve a photo no end.

  • Apply channel operations to individual channels of your image.
  • Treat Hue, Luminance, and Saturation as channels for these operations.
  • Blur, Contrast, Sharpen, and Value Change can be applied to any of the channels.
  • Channel ops can be attenuated by other channels to create more effects.
  • Multiple blend modes increase the potential number of effects that can be applied.
