Example 1: Two Trees.

This effect creates a nicely packed, slightly abstract painted result from your image. Our source image works well for the settings because it contains a detailed foreground (the trees) with a nicely non-detailed background (the sky). This means that we end up with a solid block of 'strokes' behind the trees, with detail added on top as the system progresses.

For this image we used a double column of strokes. Top row: chalkblock3.psd, chalkblock2.psd. Middle row: chalk3.psd, chalk2.psd. Bottom row: smallchalk3.psd, smallchalk2.psd. These strokes were a combination of the more harsh looking and more blurred strokes of the sets we had created.

The basic settings to use for this preset are:

Packing Panel.

  • Density over time 7 - 79%
Color Panel.
  • Hue by hue 50% - 100%
  • Luminance by Luminance 0 - 100%
  • Saturation by Saturation 0 - 75%
Variants Panel.
  • Scale over time 31 - 6%
  • Rotation via Hue 0 - 100%
  • Opacity via time 17 - 96%

Rotation based on hue groups strokes together in regions of colour, as those regions tend to have the same hue. The colour settings are all standard, and the opacity settings are tweaked so that the backing (the large, initial strokes) is more of a solid block than individual stroke outlines.
