This effect creates a more chaotic mass of paint strokes, creating a mesh of strokes inside areas of colour. Pretty much any image with a large expanse of colour that has some luminance variations inside will do well. The saturation is boosted slightly to create stronger colours than were in the original. After all, it's not a painting without a bit of interpretation... |

For this image we used a single column of three strokes. From top to bottom: chalkblock3.psd, chalk3.psd, and smallchalk3.psd. These strokes were the most harsh-edged of all of the sets we had used, resulting in a more abstract less blurred effect in the final image. |

The Luminance based rotation is what gives us the cross hatched look to the leaves. Around the edges of the leaves, where they meet the dark background, the luminance change is large so the difference in stroke rotation is large. These strokes start off as completely opaque and reduce until the later ones are quite transparent, which enhances the chaotic look of the result. |
